Why book your own boudoir shoot?

There are so many reasons women come to me to have their own boudoir experience. I have shot clients from the age of 18 all the way to 78. Their reasonings have varied in more ways than even I expected. Of corse you have the women who come in wanting to celebrate something; a birthday, anniversary, engagement, pregnancy, divorce, etc. Or sometimes its just because they want to, plain and simple. But there are also much deeper reasons.

I’ve had women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, who want some beautiful images to memorialize the ladies in all their glory before the long journey of the battle ahead of them. As well as those in the middle and end of their battles that want to embrace their strength and survival of something that could have ended their lives. The images we capture are nothing short of powerful, and I applaud each an every one of them for every part of their story.

I’ve also had women who have been victims of abuse, or assault, or have had significant trauma in their past that they are healing from. Boudoir can be a huge tool in helping a woman reclaim their bodies. To take ownership of their sexuality and heal from something that was once taken from them. I have heard stories of pain, and of the intense work that they have gone through to find beauty in their own bodies that was once a source of nothing but bad memories. These women have brought tears to my eyes and pride in my heart and I admire anyone who finds a way to reconnect with the beauty within themselves.

I have had women who have lost themselves in motherhood, struggled to see past the extra weight, the stretchmarks, or the new bodies that stand in the mirror after bringing new life into the world. Women who have never once looked at themselves with kind eyes and seen beauty. Women healing from breakups, women stepping away from strict religious backgrounds, and women who have never dared to look at let alone embrace their own bodies.

If you have followed my work for a while, you have heard me say time and time again, that there is a reason women have been the center of art for centuries. I believe we truly are one of God’s most beautiful creations. So, for whatever reason you have for wanting to celebrate yourself, boudoir is such a beautiful way to do just that. You don’t need to be in your 20’s, you most certainly don’t need to be a size 0, and for whatever reason has been pulling at you to book your own shoot- it’s a valid reason.
